Gators bite in Starksville

Bulldogs stumble in conference opener

A low scoring game in the first half opened up severely in the second half with both teams combining for 52 total points. Mississippi State opened up their conference schedule at home against the Gators in a game that was back an fourth all afternoon.

Led by another strong outing from Senior QB Blake Shapen the Bulldog offense found a nice rhythm in the second half, but with the game on the line an down 7 inside the Gator redzone it would be Sophomore Creed Whittemore who would fumble at the 1 yard line with under a minute left to seal the Bulldogs fate. Miss St will hit the road next week for the first road SEC game as they will take on the Texas Longhorns

Gators prevail in Starkville

Florida won a tough fought battle against the Mississippi State Bulldogs this morning. The Bulldog defense came out swinging in the first half as they held the Gators to 10 points in the first half, they had a pick six off of QB Graham Mertz and were containing the run super well in the first half.

After Coach FTB's halftime talk, The Gator offense came out swinging in the second half after being down 17-10 going into the half, Florida flipped the script and outscored the Bulldogs 35-17 in the second half of play.

Mertz had his game of the year so far going 15-20 with 304 yards, 3tds and 1int. Familiar faces KD Daniels and Tank Hawkins were extremely productive on the day. Daniels had 19 carries for 245 and 3tds, including a season-long 98 yard TD to put the game in a coffin with 30 seconds left to play. The freshman speedster Hawkins added 3 Catches for 103 yards and a 77 yard drag route to the house in the 4th quarter. Despite all of these performances the biggest play of the day was by S Asa Turner on a 3rd&Goal from the 8 yard line, The Bulldogs were threatening and QB Blake Shapen threw a pass that was caught on the 1 yard line, Turner clobbered the receiver causing the ball to come loose and the Gators hopped on top of it to gain possession of the ball with 47 seconds left.
