Illinois scored on the opening drive of the game and never lost the lead. The Boilermakers did make it a challenge, however.
On the Boilermaker's opening series, quarterback Hudson Card threw a pick 6 to go down 14-0. They were able to take the ball and score on a 3 yard run from Devin Mockobee to go down 14-7.
The biggest news of the game was immense struggle the Boilermakers had in the Redzone, highlighted by getting stopped at the 1 and an interception. The defense was also unable to capitalize on mistakes, and in one instance, dropped a pass in the endzone.
Illinois jumped out to an early lead and then held on late to defeat the Boilermakers in a B1G Conference game 31-28 at Memorial Stadium.
Illinois scored on its opening drive (Feagin 15yd pass From Altmyer) and then scored again on the Boilermakers first drive with a 81 yard pick 6 by DB Terrance Brooks. Purdue had a TD run in the 2nd quarter and the game was 14-7 at the half.
After Purdue had a 3 and out to start the third quarter, Illinois increased its lead with a 2 yard TD run by Kaden Feagin. The teams traded TDs and Illinois added a FG. Down 31-14 in the 4th, Purdue started to rally. They threw a TD pass and then recovered an onside kick. They went down and scored another passing TD and lined up for another onside kick. The Illini were able to recover this one and then run the clock out.
