Miami came into Louisville, KY looking to keep their great play on offense and defense going. The Miami D would come out playing hard as Louisville would go 3 and out on their opening possession. The Canes offense would put together a nice drive but they would stall out inside the 10yard line and have to settle for a 21 yard field goal and an early 3-0 lead. Louisville would put together a pretty good drive but after a big sack they would be knocked out of any kind of scoring opportunity and force to punt. Miami would again go on another long scoring drive, this time a 13 play drive that would also get stopped inside the 10 yard line. Borregales would kick his second FG of the day, this time from 23 yards out and a 6-0 lead. "Getting two field goals on those long of drives was a little disappointing," said Coach Dealer, "one thing we need to work on is getting TD's going forward." The Canes defense would step up huge next. With Louisville moving the football it looked like they may get some points before halftime. However, K.J. McManus had other ideas, he would strip sack the quarter back, pick it up and run it back for a TD and a 13-0 halftime lead. "Great play by K.J.," said Dealer, "getting that score and then also getting the ball to start the second half was huge for us."
The Canes would come out hot to start the 2nd half. Damein Martinez would put together runs of 45 yards and 19 yards to get the ball down inside the 10 yard line again. This time, Miami would make their one big mistake of the game. Ward would try and squeeze a ball into coverage and the Cards would take it back 94 yards for a pick 6 and cut the lead to 13-7. "I've got to make a better read," said Miami QB Cam Ward, "I can't squander points for our team and give the other team points in that situation." Ward would come back on the very next possession though and redeem himself. He would find Elijah Arroyo over the middle for a 30 yard TD pass to get the lead back to 20-7. The Canes defense wanted to get back in the scoring again as this time Wesley Bissainthe would pick off a pass and take it back 29 yards for a score and the canes would go up 27-7. The fourth quarter would have a Louisville offensive TD scored and Borregales would kick his 3rd FG of the game for a 30-14 victory.
"We played a pretty good game all around tonight," said Dealer, "if we can keep playing like this we may be able to get this season turned around. The next couple of weeks will be tough though as we have Florida St and Duke coming to Miami."
