Iowa traveled to Lansing and came out with a tough road win. Iowa would receive the ball first, and they came out throwing the ball on the first 4 plays. Coach Wildes was quoted after the game, "Yeah we just wanted to show our confidence in our QB McNamara and the passing game. We know we need to have balance on offense for long term success."
Balance would be the key for the game. Iowa's 3 playmakers all shared the limelight. McNamara went 15-21 with 200 yards, 2 TDs and 0 ints. RB Williams rushed the ball for 158 yards and 2 TDs, and Lachey caught 7 balls for 118 yards and 1 TD. Iowa won the turnover ball, they lost 1 fumble, while picking off the Spartans 3 times.
The Spartans have a balanced attack and would never go away. They put up 445 total yards including 372 in the air.
The Hawkeyes now look ahead to the Washington Huskies, and the Athletic Directors of Ohio State and Iowa are still looking for a date that works for both teams, so they can play their postponed game.
Sparty hosted the surging Hawkeye's for what they knew was going to be a very tough game. Although the team played great they left their Redzone offense in the locker room.
Chiles lead the way with a Big day against a stingy Hawkeye D with 372 yards on 19 completions and 3 Td's. Moving the ball down the field was not the issue for Chiles today. WR Foster Jr. and TE Velling lead the way receiving both with a TD and over 100 yards. But with three picks, two in the redzone The Spartans just couldn't climb out of the hole they dug for themselves.
The Hawkeyes had a great game plan and minus the one fumble didn't make any mistakes on Offense and kept the dynamic Carter to only 64 rushing yards.
Sparty now turns their sites to a Solid TCU team!
