The Illini traveled to Eugene to take on the Oregon Ducks in a new B1G conference matchup. The Fighting Illini struggled in the first half, falling behind 17-0. Their only scoring opportunity in the first half came on a badly missed 53 yard FG by David Olano.
Illinois started the 3rd quarter with an interception that set up the Ducks offense on the 38 yard line and they scored two plays later to go up 24-0. Illinois came to life the rest of the third quarter, scoring two TDs and two 2pt conversions to cut the lead to 24-16. But that would be all the Illini could do as the Ducks sealed the victory with a 68 yd TD on a jet sweep in the 4th quarter.
The Ducks bounced back from their recent struggles with a dominate performance on defense as they took an 17-0 halftime lead, not allowing anything from the Illinois offense. Oregon pushed the lead up to 24-0 in the third quarter, before the Illini answered with 16 straight thanks to a pair of touchdowns and 2-point conversions.
With the game still in doubt in the fourth, Tez Johnson sealed the win after taking a pass and tip toeing down the right sideline before cutting back into the endzone for a 31-16 advantage.
