HOUSTON, TX - Neck and neck, blow to blow for an entire contest at TDECU on Sunday found the Houston Cougars once more, on the losing end of a back and forth contest 21-14 as senior QB Donovan Smith was picked for the first and only time at the most innopportune time, in the last minute to seal the deal for them Utes.
"I dunno what else to say, to do, I mean we installed a new defense this past week and for the most part I was pleased with it. We just couldn't close things out, or get the necessary stops on 3rd down when we needed them the most. I thought Donovan played okay, missed some reads but improving. Not where we need to be as a team, Donnie's a senior he's got to take that leadership role the rest of the way. It's on me, and only me again."
In a tightly contested matchup, Utah edged out Houston 21-14, thanks to a well-rounded offensive performance that kept the Cougars on their toes. The Utes showcased a balanced attack, seamlessly blending a potent passing game with a dynamic rushing offense. Their quarterback efficiently connected with receivers for key completions, while the running backs consistently gained ground, keeping the Houston defense guessing. This balanced approach not only allowed Utah to control the tempo of the game but also provided the flexibility to exploit weaknesses in the Cougars’ defense. Despite a strong challenge from Houston, Utah’s methodical and versatile offense proved too much to handle, securing a hard-fought victory with a blend of strategic play and disciplined execution.
