The Toledo Rockets continued the win streak with a great win against a good Bowling Green team. Senior running back Jaquez Stuart has another remarkable night on the ground gaining close to 200 yards on 17 carries including a 71 yarder to start the game on Toledos favorite run hb base. The defense started off rocky allowing bowling green to get in the endzone early. Senior Safety Emmanuel
McNeil-Warren had a career night grabbing 3 ints for which he took 2 for touchdowns. Coach Smitty said after the game it was his effort that really inspired the team and won the game for the Rockets.
Coming into the Battle of I-75 defacto (Mac Champion semifinal), BGSU knew it would have their hands full with some of the offensive talent in Toledo. Once the Falcons saw the Tennessee wide playbook, they knew they were in more trouble than they thought. After a quick 3 and out offensively, Toledo spread em out wide and went to the first of many HB bases to the outside, and walked for a 71 yard td. After a quick answer, and tied at 7, the Falcons continue to give up huge chunks of yardage in the run game with the light boxes they were forced into. But the biggest problem the Falcons had on their day was their unwillingness to take what the defense gave them and continued to force tight windows, and ultimately turning it over 5x via the interception, leading to 24 Toledo Points off turnovers.
The biggest blunder of the game came as the Falcons drove the field in the final 3 mins to try and take the lead, and with approx 30 secs left in the game, RB Stewart took a dive at the 11 yard line on what probably would have been the go ahead score. The falcons then failed to score on any of their next three plays having to settle for a game tying FG.
After losing the coin toss in OT, BGSU was back at it and down to the 3 yard line on 3rd down when it appeared (via replay) Terion Stewart broke the plane of the goal-line, but ultimately it was overturned, andf the falcons were stuffed on 4th and goal from the half inch line.
On the other end, Toledo hit a fade up the sideline beating 70 speed LB Horne int he corner of the end zone after thinking he had good covg, but clearly was a step of 10 too slow..
Hell of a game for Toldeo, pourus effort by BGSU. Season down the drains
