After allowing a TD to Akron within the first 3 plays to open the game, Eastern Michigan settled for a field goal and prepared to fight down 7-3 on the road. The 2nd quarter was keyed by 2 Cole Snyder touchdowns, with one coming at the end of the half with 10 secs. This put Eastern Michigan ahead 17-14 at half on the road

The usual volume was not there for the Eastern Michigan passing attack, as they were able to rely on Dontae McMillan to push to a 24-14 lead. Akron attacked until the end, trying their hardest to get the ball back with under a min down 3. Snyder hit Rooks on a safe 3rd down screen pass, for a game clinching chunk play
