For the second time this season, the Spoilermakers beat and undefeated team at home; the latest victim, the #8 ranked Northwestern Wildcats.
The game started off with an opening drive touchdown by the Wildcats. The wildcats help the Boilermakers scoreless until the second quarter after an 18 yard touchdown run by RB Devin Mockobee. The Wildcats were also able to take an interception to the house as time expired at the half, putting the Boilermakers down 10.
The Boilermaker did not concede a touchdown the rest of the game. With a balanced offensive attack, the Boilermakers were able to score 10 in the third quarter. Matching fields goals in the 4th led to an overtime game.
Winning the toss, the Boilermakers elected to defer in overtime. The defense was able to hold the wildcats to a field goal. Given the ball, all the Boilermakers had to do to win was to score a touchdown - no easy task against the stout Wildcat defense. The Boilermakers were able to get it down to first and goal from the 1, getting stopped short 3 times of the endzone. In a gutsy call, the Boilermakers decided to go for it on 4th down. A score wins it, a stop loses the game.
QB Hudson Card threw a perfect ball to WR Andrew Swoinski, placing it just over the head of the Wildcat defender for the win. For the second time in as many weeks, the fans stormed the field to celebrate the victory.
The Boilermakers face their toughest test next week, going on the road to face the #3 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.
Northwestern goes down to defeat on the road vs Purdue. This was a back and forth game that eventually went to OT and was won by Purdue 26-23 . Purdue won the toss and deferred. A dropped pass in the corner of the endzone cause Northwestern to settle for 3. On their turn, Purdue got down to the goal line but could not punch it in. Instead of extending the game, they went for it on fourth down. A quick out to the WR was just out of the leaping hands of LB Mac Uihlein who read the play the entire way. If the 6-foot-1 junior was 6-foot-2 the Wildcats would have won the game. Those are the breaks. Hats off to Purdue on a wild game.
