In a hard fault defensive struggle, Minnesota, notched its first one of the year on the road against Illinois ! It was a ruckus environment and for the better part of 3qtrs it looked like Illinois defense was going to shut the golden gophers out . Max bro smart had his best game of the year , not turning the ball over a single time and going 12-18 for 135 yards and 1 td . The offense was led by standout rb Darius Taylor who carried the ball 28 times for 213 yards and a touchdown . It was no easy task and there is a bright future with the Illinois head coach !
The Illini scored on their first possession of the game, a 34 yard strike from Luke Altmyer to Aidan Laughery to take a 7-0 lead. But that would be all the scoring from Illinois as the Golden Gophers used a bruising running game and a stiff defense to shut down the Illini and defeat them at home 12-7.
Coach uf83198 didn't have any answers on either side of the ball after the opening drive. Illinois also struggled in the kicking game missing two field goals. Minnesota dominated time of possession 17 minutes to 10:51 for Illinois.
The loss, Illinois' second in a row, drops them to 4-5 on the season heading into a bye week 11.
