Georgia State hosted the Red Wolves from Arkansas. the game started off with Arkansas driving the field behind their strong running attack for a 6-0 lead. the Panthers figured some stuff out on defense and took the game into the half behind 12-6.
The second half was wild as a KO return by the Wolves and a couple turnovers proved to be the difference in the contest.
Georgia St will continue to work out the kinks and look for their first win of the season.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves traveled to the ATL to take on the Georgia State Panthers. The Wolves are on a 4 game winning streak while the Panthers were looking for their first win.
Both teams took their opening drives to touchdowns, but Wolves' kicker Aiden Ellison, missed his extra point attempt to be down 7-6 early in the second quarter. The Wolves drove down inside the 15 yard line, when Jaylen Raynor made his only mistake of the game throwing interception in the endzone and they returned it to their own 5 yard line.
On the Panthers' first play, quarterback Zach Gibson went option left. He gets hit by linebacker Dane Motley forcing a bad pitch into the endzone and it was picked up Jordan Mahoney for a Wolves touchdown. The two point conversion was no good and they took a 12-7 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers drove down the field, but the drive staled and they had to settle for a 41 field goal to cut the Wolves lead to two 12-10. But on the ensuing kickoff, Regan Ealy took the ball up the middle, broke left, and took it back a 95 yard touchdown. to take a 19-10 lead. The Panthers would then get the ball, and on a 3rd and 11 from their own 18 yard line, Gibson hit a well covered Darius Bush who breaks a tackle and races for an 82 yard touchdown. The extra point made the score 19-17 after three quarters,
The Wolves drove the field again, but failed to score as Ellison missed a 22 yard chip shot. The Panthers took the ball and drove to midfield when linebacker Charles Willekes intercepted the ball at 35 yard line and returned it to mid field. Raynor completed a couple short passes and cross a few runs to get the Wolves down to the 28 yard line, On a 3rd and 4, Raynor would run option left and pitch the ball to receiver Ealy and went in untouched to the endzone. Following the extra point, the game was 26-17. The Panthers last attempt was stopped by safety Trevian Thomas at the 38 yard line.
Coach Quest tipped his Hat to the Panthers for never giving up in this hard fought game.
