Kansas State came in hopeful to get a huge Big XII win. They started off great converting a long 3rd down for a big TD to Cephas, held tight on D most of the half and held down the turnovers. In the second half though the flood gates broke. Turnovers came as did Arizona State converting those to points. 2 pick 6s and a kick return for a TD really did in the Wildcats, a questionable catch and fumble finally demoralized the Cats enough to shut it down and try to control the margin of defeat. "If we ever put one together for 4 quarters on both sides of the ball a guy might be able to keep his job." Coach bearass after the AZST game.
Arizona State delivered a dominant performance on both sides of the ball, cruising to a 45-17 victory over Kansas State in a game marked by efficient offense and a stifling defense.
Arizona State’s offensive prowess was on full display as they accumulated 484 total yards, outgaining Kansas State’s 420 yards. The Sun Devils’ balanced attack featured 195 passing yards and 116 rushing yards, which helped them secure 16 first downs. Kansas State, despite their 333 total yards, struggled to keep pace, particularly in key moments.
One of the critical factors in Arizona State’s triumph was their ability to capitalize on Kansas State’s mistakes. The Sun Devils benefited from three turnovers by Kansas State, including two interceptions and a fumble. Kansas State’s offensive hiccups were compounded by their inability to convert on third downs, going just 5-of-11 compared to Arizona State’s 2-of-5.
In the special teams battle, Arizona State’s kick return game was impressive, racking up 172 yards compared to Kansas State’s 34. Additionally, Arizona State showcased their efficiency in the red zone, converting both of their red-zone opportunities into touchdowns, while Kansas State managed just one touchdown from their lone red-zone visit.
Defensively, Arizona State was rock-solid, not allowing any sacks or penalties, and maintaining a solid time of possession with 11:57 compared to Kansas State’s 16:03. This disciplined play allowed them to control the tempo and keep Kansas State’s offense in check.
Overall, Arizona State’s well-rounded performance and ability to exploit turnovers led to a convincing victory. As they look ahead, the Sun Devils will be eager to build on this strong showing, while Kansas State will need to address their mistakes and find ways to improve their efficiency in future matchups.
