Arizona Closes Out Season With Loss
Article By: It was a wild affair in Dallas as the Wildcats raced through a range of emotions in a game that was destined to come down to the final minute.
Arizona initially looked like they'd run away with their matchup against TCU after racing out to a 21-3 first quarter lead thanks to a pair of Horned Frogs turnovers. The Wildcats scored for the first time all season on a fumble return after the scooped up an early ball put on the ground by the TCU QB.
However, the second quarter proved to be the exact opposite when it came to momentum and the Frogs came roaring back with a vengeance. The TCU defense began to lock down on the vaunted Wildcats receiving core and time and again turned them away from their routes. TCU was able to tie the game back off right before half to finish off a 21-3 quarter of their own.
Arizona opened the third quarter with a bang after hitting a 62 yard wheel route to their backup HB. It was Fifita's 3rd read on the play and he told reporters after the game that he was beyond surprised to see him sneaking down the sideline completely uncovered. It looked like Arizona might be able to grab the momentum back at that point but again the TCU defense rose up to the occasion and made sure that would not happen.
TCU was near perfect in the 4th quarter as they went on a 10-0 run to end the game. It allowed the Frogs to tie and then pass Arizona on the way to victory. Arizona has been running on a miracle prayer all season winning 3 games on their last drive but they would be denied on the road in Dallas as they threw an interception on just the second play of their attempt at tying the game with under a minute to go.
Arizona falls to 7-5 on the year and now awaits to find out who their bowl opponent will be this year.
