The season finale for the Hokies was a great first half followed by a nerve wracking second half but they held on to win 30-28 to get to the 6 win mark after starting 0-3 under the original coach before Coach Neal took over. Tech led 24-7 at halftime before Duke got things going and almost completed the comeback. Vt kicked a field goal with 2 minutes left to go up 30-21 and was able to recover and onside kick to seal the game after the late touchdown from Duke made it 30-28. The Hokies now wait for the bowl committee to offer them a bowl game.
The season finale for Duke was a tale of two halves, marked by a promising start but a heartbreaking finish. Despite a solid first half where they trailed 24-7, Duke mounted a valiant comeback effort that almost paid off. The Blue Devils surged in the second half, inching closer with a late touchdown that brought the score to 30-28.
However, Virginia Tech managed to extend their lead with a field goal with just 2 minutes left on the clock, pushing the score to 30-21. To make matters worse, Duke's chances were further dashed when the Hokies recovered an onside kick, effectively sealing the game and ending Duke's comeback hopes. With the defeat, the Blue Devils are left waiting to see if they'll be invited to a bowl game, their season hanging in the balance after a thrilling but ultimately disappointing finale.
