NDL: S29W13 - Sam Houston (35) at Jacksonville State (42)

Gamecocks unstoppable at home

Article By: jamesthecarman

Jax State was unstoppable, going 6 of 8 on 3rd downs, with a balanced attack. When Sam Houston thought they were running, they'd throw it. Shoot, even a Cover 4 got beat by play action. Jax State’s offensive line was exceptional, providing ample protection for their quarterback and opening up lanes for the running backs. Their versatility and ability to adapt on the fly kept Sam Houston’s defense guessing and off-balance throughout the game.

There were some bright sides for Sam Houston on offense. They showed resilience in their passing game, with a few key completions that kept drives alive despite the overall challenge. Newly discovered SS Ny'Quee Hawkins had 11 tackles and an interception, showcasing his potential as a standout player in their defensive unit.

JSU, SHSU Light Up Night Sky

The Jacksonville State offense was humming as it never has in Week 13 as they welcomed the Sam Houston Bearkats to town. Every bit of the 515 yard offensive output from Jax State was needed though.

The Jacksonville State defense was able to get two stop on early possessions and that was about it...for both teams.

QB Zion Turner led the JSU offense with 15/18 passing, 365 yards and four touchdowns compared to one interception.

Turner opened up his great night with a strike to TE Sean Brown. Turner also connected with WR Michael Pettway for two touchdowns and WR Demarcus Lacey early in the fourth quarter to keep Jacksonville State ahead throughout this encounter.

The win did not come without concern however. After JSU took a 42-28 lead, Sam Houston would reach the end zone again...but with just nine seconds left. As long as JSU could successfully recover the onside kick it would be smooth sailing. It was turbulent sailing as WR Demarcus Lacey would fail to pick up the ball and keep Sam Houston alive. After a quick strike over the middle it would take an interception by safety Ky'won McCray in the end zone as time expired to officially put the game in the win column.
