Georgia State suffers road loss

Article By: beercop

Gerogia State went on a long road trip to Fresno State with a renewed hope after getting skulled drugged by the Georgia Bulldogs in week one. Well week two had more of the same as these Fresno State Bulldogs put up 35 points in the first half behind a powerful rushing attack and stingy defense.

Georgia State has started QB Kyle Lowe to jump start its rushing attack the first two weeks. It has been a dismal failure and will now look to Zach Gibson to guide the offense in week three. Coach Beercop was quated as saying that Fresno State has an excellent team and an outstanding coach. Much success to them in the future.

Fresno State RB Malik Sherrod celebrates after his third TD run

Sherrod, Foreman Fire Fresno Past GSU

Malik Sherrod ran for 187 yards and three touchdowns, and Korey Foreman caused havoc on defense as Fresno State opened their season with a 35-7 victory over Georgia State on Sunday afternoon.

It was a day of big plays for Fresno State, who got a 73-yard touchdown from Sherrod on the second play of the game. Mikey Keene made it 14-0 on their second drive, when the quarterback hit a wide-open Jalen Moss for a 49 yard touchdown.

"I saw they had no safety help on that side," Keene said of the play. "Their secondary went bump-and-run and Moss did a great job of beating it, and I just had it lay it out there for him."

The completion was one of just seven Keene had on the day from only eight attempts. He still managed to throw for 139 yards on the day and two touchdowns, the second of which also went to Moss via a 36-yd touch sweep play.

That score came right after the Bulldogs picked off GSU's Kyle Lowe, one of three interceptions they recorded on the day. The pick came as he was hit in the act of throwing by Foreman, who was giving the Panthers fits on the offensive line.

Foreman racked up four solo tackles and eight in total, five of which were tackles for loss. He repeatedly got to the quarterback, registering 2.5 sacks and forcing a fumble.

"Korey was a one-man wrecking crew today,"said Coach Ence of his star rush end. "He was able to put serious pressure on their quarterback and made life hell for him, and made things easier on his teammates."

Fresno State would lead 35-0 at halftime, thanks to Sherrod finding the endzone again from 28 yards out. His third touchdown run saw him break multiple tackles off an option play to cap an impressive performance.

Georgia State continued to fight throughout, as backup quarterback Zach Gibson would come into the game and throw a 41-yd touchdown pass with a few minutes left in the game. But the gap in talent, especially in the trenches, was simply too much to overcome.

"Coach Beercop did the best he could," Coach Ence would say after the game. "We've known each other a long time and he's gonna figure out his quarterback situation, and he will get a few wins before this season is over."

Fresno State now turns their attention to their upcoming road trip, as they go cross-country to face App State and Coach Holmey. That game will kick off on Wednesday night, and should be a high-scoring affair.
