After an 0-4 start, The Red Wolves took a 3 game winning streak into Logan, Utah to take on the Aggies of Utah State.
Coming off a five interception game in the come from behind win over Troy, Jaylen Raynor did an outstanding job leading the Wolves on their first game without a turnover to win their 4th straight victory 48-35 over Utah State. Raynor completed 11-12 passes for 287 yards, 2 touchdowns, and he added a rushing touchdown as well.
It was Raynor's passing that kept the Wolves in the game early as the Aggies were stuffing the run game. Jacquez Cross (22-171 yards 2 touchdowns) as he got going after a tough first quarter.
The defense bend but don't break attitude was definitely in full force as they gave up over 500 yards passing, but the Wolves forced two turnovers and made some nice 4th down stops in the second half. The first turnover was a pick 6 touchdown by safety Justin Parks. Parks caught the ball thrown into his zone at the his own 28, and he ran it back 72 yards for the touchdown with less than 3 minutes left in the game to go up 48-28. Utah State scored the last touchdown with 1:50 to go. Arkansas State recovered the onside kick, ran three plays to have the Aggies use all their timeouts. The Wolves punted the ball to the 8 yard line forcing the Aggies to go 92 yards to score, On 2nd and ten, Spencer Petras (27-46 520 yards 5 td;'s 2 int) threw it to midfield but Trevian Thomas intercepts the ball and quickly slides to the ground to start the celebration.
The Wolves next two opponents are both on the road against Louisiana Ragin' Cajun and Georgia State Panthers.
Arkansas State amassed over 220 yards on the ground compared to Utah St's measly 29 yards.
Utah State had to rely heavily on the arm of Petras, as they have many times before this season. Unfortunately, this time Petras' 520 yards resulted in zero touchdowns. The silver lining, is the zero interceptions. But not getting the ball into the endzone is new territory for Petras.
Aggies hope to refocus and and set their sights on The Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii next week.
