An offensive explosion led the Louisville Cardinals to route the South Alabama Jaguars. Although appearing close at halftime with the Cardinals only up 17-14, the Louisville offensive produced 21 points in the 3rd quarter to run away with the game.
Tyler Shough had a shough-ing, throwing for 4 TDs and 304 yards with only 1 INT.
Donald Chaney tore up the ground game with 166 yards rushing and 1 TD on 20 attempts.
Tight End Gervase Johnson was Shough's favorite target, bringing in 142 receving yards and 2 TDs from 6 catches.
The player of the game though was senior kicker Brock Travelstead, who went 5/5 XP and 3/3 FG, with a long of 53 yards and another being 52 yards.
Still, the defense showed concerns for the season. They were torched by the Jaguars passing game, allowing 397 yards and 3 TDs. They were able to produce against the run, especially in 3rd-and-short situations, however their passing defense leaves much to be desired.
Louisville has a BYE Week 2, before playing at Illinois Week 3.
The Jags played well , but came up short in their season opener against the Louisville Cardinals. The Jags offense was able to put up big numbers, but the defense got "cooked."
