Cade Klubnik played well but also cost Clemson. He threw an early interception in Akron territory. Akron also had a great play when Klubnik pitched the ball to Mafah, the Akron LB flew in and caused a fumble. The Clemson qb made up for his mistakes by throwing two touchdowns. Akron put together a solid drive late in the game to avoid the goose egg in Death Valley.
Akron getting ready to take the field in Death Valley
Akron knew this would be an extremely tough game going into Death Valley to face a very good Clemson team. Zips coach priest19 was optimistic that the team had learned some lessons from the first game of the season.
The Zips came out and played a really solid game on defense causing a couple of turnovers and holding Clemson to 21 points. The offense on the other hand was offensive. Akron could only must 172 yards of total offense against a stifling Tigers defense.
"We knew this was going to be another really tough game especially coming into Death Valley with the crowd noise. It did play a factor in some offensive plays not being executed well. Overall I am really pleased with the way the defense played. We need to sit down and take a hard look at the offense as it was underwhelming again."
Up next for the Zips is a trip to ODU in Week 3.
