It was a sunny day as always in Southern California as the Trojans took the field to take on the Akron Zips of the MAC. The game started with a 3 and out drive for the Zips and history repeated itself from there. Superstar sophomore wideout Zachariah Branch got going early on with an explosive house call catch up the seam, and a beautifully executed jet sweep around the right side for 6. That combined with efficient quarterback play from Miller Moss had the offense humming. Defensively the line backing duo of Mascarenas-Arnold and Mason Cobb produced two interceptions along with opportunities for the DL to work with 3 sacks on the day. Akron added a score in the 4th after a big fumble in the USC zone proved to be too much to overcome. Overall a great showing in a game USC was favored to win.
Next USC will enjoy their BYE week fine tuning things for next time. The next opponent will be the Tennessee Vols on their turf. I hate Rocky Top!
Akron opened their season in sunny California and that was about the only bright spot on the day. The Zips had trouble moving the ball against a good USC defense. USC had no problem moving the ball and just over powered the Akron defense. The final in this one was 38-7.

Next up for Akron is a trip to Clemson in Week 2.
