The Penn State Nittney Lions opened their season at home against the Huskies of Conneticut.
After a beautiful punt that went out at the 1 yard line the Lions were able to march down into the red zone but an ill timed leap opposed to the slide lead the a fumble by Allard. The PSU D stood pat and got the ball back with about 4 minutes left in the half. The offense again drove down the field and got to the Connecticut 22 yard line. Allard dropped back and forced a ball to his tight end down the seam which was picked off, halting another drive.
Uconn took advantace breaking a huge 44 yard run to get to the PSU 35 with under a minute left in the half. The PSU defense held strong and forced a 49 yard try. The kick went up and feel little short and wide right. Halftime score 0-0 which was going off at 40-1 to most books.
Second half opened with a BANG!!!! Thats right a big play as Allar throws his second pick on the first play. UConn used one play to hit the wide open tight end in the flat, going in untouched and breaking the scoring drought.
Allar would settle down and lead a drive down the field, capping it off with a 22 yard strike to his tight end who snuck behind the linebackers to tie the game at 7.
UConn would drive the ball but a timely sack forced a punt.
PSU would drive to UConns 45 but fail to convert and were forced to punt. A good punt pinned UConn at their own 8 wtih just over 5 minutes left in the game.
UConn mixed up the run and the pass and were able to convert a big 28 yard pass to get into PSU territory. UConn was able to use up the clock and get in the red zone but a big sack set up a 3rd and 19 from the 27. The PSU defense got a deflection and forced UConn to attempt a 44 yarder, the try was up and goooood. UConn leading 10-7 with 1:09 to go.
The crowd was silent and PSU had been struggling to make any big play all game. The offense came out and set up a quick wide receiver screen. Harrison Wallace the third made the catch and turned up field. With big number 77 taking out two corners, Wallace was able to get to the sideline and it was a foot race. A quick juke back inside at the 25 making the saftey miss and he was free. 75 yard touchdown to go up 14-10 with :57 seconds left on the board.
UConn with two time outs was able to get to the PSU 33 but a coverage sack put them back to the 40 yard line with one last play. A hail mary to the back corner was knocked down ending the game.
Good game LAO, seemed like I couldn't get the right play calls through out the entire game.
In a defensive battle, UCONN dropped a tight one to the Penn State Nittany Lions. Both offenses struggled in the scoreless first half. UCONN forcing 3 turnovers was able to keep them in the game, but Penn State broke through in the second half with a big Harrison Wallace touchdown.
