Miami came into this Week 4 game against Colorado St, 0-2, but were hoping that a home game would be the remedy they needed in order to get into the win column. Things looked good early as in the first quarter the Canes were able to get a couple stops on defense and then would punch a 37 yard field goal through to take a 3-0 lead. The Canes would get the first TD of the game early in the 2nd quarter and things would be looking promising up 10-0. Colorado St would not falter though. They would cut the score to 10-7 with 2 minutes left in the half. Miami for the second week in a row would then throw a pick 6 that would put them down 14-10. "We have to stop turning the ball over late in the half," said Coach Dealer, "these pick 6's are absolutely killing our momentum." Ward would then throw his second interception in less than two minutes, Colorado St would kick a FG at the half to go up 17-10.
The second half would start with Colorado St with the ball, but the Cane defense would come out and shut them down. Miami would put a great drive together and get down to the 3 yard line. "We had some kind of mix up with our play call," said Dealer, "we wanted a run, but for some reason a pass play was called." This would end in disaster as Ward would be sacked and the ball would be fumbled into the endzone and out of bounds. The Rams would capitalize and would quickly take it down the field for a 24-10 lead. Both teams would each add one more TD and the Canes would lose 31-17.
Miami better figure out something quick, ACC play opens starting in Week 5 and Week 6 with games against Virginia Tech and Cal
In a highly anticipated matchup between the Colorado State Rams and the Miami Hurricanes, the Rams secured a solid 31-17 victory in a game that showcased their strength on both sides of the ball.
Colorado State's quarterback, Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi, had a steady performance, completing 17 of 28 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown. While not putting up eye-popping numbers, Fowler-Nicolosi managed the game effectively and made key throws when needed, earning a passer rating of 135.2.
The Rams' rushing attack was led by Quentin Driver, who made an impact with 24 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown. Driver's ability to find running lanes and break off big gains helped keep the Miami defense off balance throughout the game.
On the receiving end of the ball, Colorado State's Logan Clifford stood out with a stellar performance, tallying 6 catches for 122 yards on the day. His catches were in tight windows and big 3rd down conversions.
In the end, Colorado State's 31-17 victory over Miami was a testament to their discipline, execution, and ability to rise to the occasion against a formidable opponent. The win will surely boost the Rams' confidence as they look ahead to future matchups in what promises to be an exciting season for the team. Colorado State looks to continue hot off their 2-0 start.
