Sparty started off on fire! Jumping out to a first half lead of 27 to 14. The running game was cooking early and often and Carter finished the day with 248 rushing yards and 2 Td's.
Chiles helped carry the load as well adding 353 passing yards and another 3 td's.
But the real story of the game was the DREADFUL kicking of Senior Jonathan Kim, who has been money for the Spartans all year, must have partied a little too hard before this game because he missed a 19 yard FG early on followed by a missed extra point. He capped his day off with a missed 39 yarder and Sparty couldn't overcome the missing 7 points.
NIU's coach Jon played one hell of a second half and had his team humming. I look forward to seeing what he does in the future!
The Huskies took on the Michigan State Spartans in what turned out to be quite the clash of styles. NIU took to the air early and often after finding no success against the teeth of the Spartan frontline. The Spartans pounded the rock and gashed the NIU defense.
The Spartans may have came out with the victory but issues with the kicking game bit the Spartans dearly. The Huskies went ahead on a last minute desperate run by Fullback B. Lampe.
The Spartans realized that when your opponent goes into prevent defense, they are trying to prevent themselves from winning. MSU drove down the field despite only having under a minute left and a last second pass was batted down in the endzone.
Good game from the Spartan coach, it was a lot of fun!
