JSU Melts Down as Defense Cant Stop Pass

Article By: Block M

In the first half it looked as if Jacksonville State was picking up right where they left off in a turnover free game against Kennesaw State. The Gamecocks had another half of mistake free football, long drives that ended in touchdowns and controlled much of the game clock. This all led to a massive three touchdown lead after an interception from Geimere Latimer set up nicely for their third offensive touchdown of the game.

This would be the last play the Jacksonville State defense made all game.

In the second half UCONN went to the passing game to make up ground and the Gamecocks defense looked helpless as the Huskies continued to gash the defense creeping closer and closer.

As the Huskies crept closer it put added pressure on the offense to maintain pace and after a missed chip shot field goal late in the 4th quarter failed to put JSU up 10, the score remained 31-24 and everyone knew what was coming.

UCONN marched down the field with little to no opposition and knotted the game with 0:58 left on the clock.

With the pressure on, JSU QB Zion Turner miss placed a pass that was easily snagged by the UCONN defense. The return put UCONN in field goal position but who needs to kick when playing against a defense made of paper. The Huskies scored with seconds left to complete to impressive comeback.

Jacksonville State falls to 2-3 on the year, the lone bright spot for the team is their 1-0 record in Conference USA play which will be put to the test the remainder of the year.

Big comeback sparks first UCONN win

UCONN defeated JSU 38-31, in a game of 2 very different halves. In the first half, UCONN was completely outclassed and faced a 28-3 deficit. Nick Evers had another great game after the South Carolina showing, throwing for over 350 yards. Evers did a good job of spreading the ball around, throwing a touchdown pass to 4 different receivers, a group that was led by Jasaiah Gathings and his 6 catch, 93 yard outing.
