We knew coming into this game that we were counted out, no one would believe but our coaching staff and teammates...we believed. Due to some in season issues and violations, we went into this game without starting QB LaNorris Sellers, and star track star wide receiver. We knew it would be tough but we reflected on a long season that started out very rocket in a Week 1 loss to North Carolina. Than we got blown out in season by Missouri in a very embarassing and disappointing loss 38-7.
We walked into the SEC Championship game fired up and our heads held high ready to shock the nation. The biggest key in our victory was Rocket Sanders, who rushed for 128 yards on 17 attempts. Robert Ashford showed up BIG and got the award in the locker room for Player of The Game. Throwing an IMMACULATE 4 TD passes to 1 interception, amassing 284 yards through the air.
The defense came up big in the end with an interception to give our offense an oppurtunity to seal the game. The go ahead touchdown to Huggins-Bruce will go down in SC History as one of the biggest plays in our program history. Lets see what kind of bigger waves we can make going forward.
Bam Martin-Scott with the biggest play of the game
Atlanta, Georgia - The Missouri Tigers suffered their first loss of the season today in heart-breaking fashion, losing the SEC title game 42-35. For the first 3 quarters, the Tiger offense was dominate. Running back Marcus Carroll turned in his finest game of the season, gashing the Gamecock defense left, right and up the middle all night long to the tune of 158 yards and all 5 of the Tigers touchdowns. The same could not be said for his counterpart Nate Noel. Noel. who had been the Tigers most valuable player on the season, was directly responsible for 2 huge 4th quarter turnovers dooming the Tigers hopes for a first-round bye in the College Football Playoffs. His first turnover came on a costly fumble while trying to run out the lead with the Tigers up 35-28. The Gamecocks would waste no time capitalizing on the costly turnover and immediately march down the short field to tie the ball game. With just over a minute a half left to play the Tigers felt they would shake off the turnover and march down the field to win the game, but South Carolina, and Noel, had other ideas. Noel ran a route to the left flat and was left wide open by the Gamecock defense. Brady Cook, after making his reads noticed the wide-open Noel and fired the ball in his directions. Unfortunately for Cook, Noel took off up the field, causing him to hesitate on his throw and fire it right into the hands of Gamecock linebacker Bam Martin-Scott. From there the Gamecocks again took advantage of the short field and sealed the Tigers fate with the game winning touchdown. "This one certainly stings," said a dejected coach McDonagh at the post-game press conference. "I thought, and still do, think we should have walked out of here with the win. Sadly, for us turnovers are a big part of the game, and we turned the ball over in two critical situations late in the ball game." The Tigers now will have to lick their wounds and quickly turn their attention to whoever they may draw in the 1st round of the College Football Playoffs.
