This was a heavyweight clash between a couple of seasoned veterans. Both Coaches came into the game knowing they would have to put a game together and make the least amount of mistakes to win. With each team scoring on their opening drives it would set the stage for classic. SMU would be the first to make a mistake throwing a pick six and giving up the early lead and the advantage of getting the ball. The Mustangs would also miss a FG in the first half that would have closed the gap. The Mustang defense did get some stops and get the SMU ball back and they would make the most of it. Taking the halftime lead back 17-14. More Mustang defense offered a bend but dont break attitude and while giving up a couple more scores, they managed some stops and let the SMU offense go back to work. SMU had 2 plays in the second half that proved to be difference makers. The first, a wild scramble from Preston Stone where he found a equally scrambling Bailey for a long catcha and TD run. The second, a WR screen over the middle that was taken to the house late in the game by Hudson.
