UGA played host to the Wildcats of Kentucky today in their first conference game of the season. The game started out pretty sluggish with both teams going punting on their first drives. UGA would pull out firsts as they put up the only points in the 1st quarter. From there the Bulldogs hit the gas shutting the Wildcats down putting up 2 more unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter. Kentucky would put together 2 good drives at the end of the half to get back within a score. UGA put up another 14 unanswered scores in the 3rd and by then it was little too late for Kentucky to come back. The Bulldogs were lead by the great performance of their ground game and their starting HB Trevor Etienne who rushed for 202 yard and 2 touchdowns on the day. "We wanted to play mistake free football and control the tempo of the game. We had a gameplan and we stuck to it" said Coach Cane after the game. UGA hopes to continue this momentum as they get into the middle of their schedule and things get tougher.
Coach, ElJefe, is not one to be known for losing many games, as he got this job at Kentucky, for his amazing record at Temple, with the owls, going 11-1. He was hoping to be able to recreate this and maybe make a push for the playoffs with Kentucky this season but things have changed. After starting the season 0-2 with a huge loss to Georgia, they are going to change the head of their offense in the next game. Vandagriff just wasn't good enough in this game. Although, going for 400 yards wasn't bad, he wasn't producing enough on the ground or helping the run game at all. The running back was only able to go for about 50 yards and was shut down the whole game. The defense only recording 2 PDef the whole game without a single sack or TFL. Etienne was able to break too many tackles and 200 yards is unacceptable. After talking to coach, ElJefe he says, "There are going to be many struggles in this insane SEC conference, we are going to continue to adjust and bounce back every week."
Good luck to DCane and the Bulldogs for the rest of the season.
