In a thrilling battle between NC State and Wake Forest, the longest-standing rivalry in the ACC delivered fireworks early on, with the first quarter alone featuring a staggering 49 points. The NC State Wolfpack came out on fire, with running back Jordan Waters scoring three times on the ground, including a dazzling 39-yard run and a breakaway 75-yard touchdown.
The Wolfpack defense was also a major factor, as they capitalized on two Wake Forest interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns, further adding to their commanding lead. NC State also had a spectacular special teams moment when Jonathan Paylor returned a punt to the Wake Forest 1-yard line, setting up an easy score.
By halftime, NC State was comfortably ahead, leading 42-21.
After a high-octane first half, the second half saw a significant drop in scoring. The two teams traded just a single touchdown each—Wake Forest managed to put one on the board, but NC State answered with another score of their own to keep the game out of reach.
Ultimately, it was the Wolfpack who emerged victorious, with their potent offense, defensive playmaking, and special teams dominance proving to be too much for the Demon Deacons. The final score likely reflected the frenetic pace of the first half, with both teams showing flashes of brilliance but NC State ultimately proving the more consistent and complete team.
The game was a well executed gameplan by the Wolfpack. The Wolfpack defense stood tall against an incredibly dynamic and dangerous offensive attack. They created 4 turnovers (3 interceptions and 1 fumble). NC State is still in control of their own destiny in the ACC, but there is still a lot of ACCtion left!
Wake Forrest too focused on NC State cheerleaders to start the game. Wake and NC State did battle tonight. Game started with the wildest 1st quarter ever. It featured a punt return for a td for Wake followed by NC State returning a point to the 1. State had a 70 yard td run as well as both team traded scores. The game flipped on its head with State up 21-14. Wake managed to throw two pick 6 on back to back plays that pushed the lead to 35-14 for the wolf pack. Wake’s defense clamped down on the scoring but State was able to control the clock and limit Wake’s chances to get back in the game. GG and GL the rest of the way!
