DALLAS, TEXAS -- It looked like the season was lost as SMU continued to swap QBs and continued to struggle.
QB Kevin Jennings got the start and would toss two interceptions. In would come Preston Stone to replace Jennings and he would also toss two interceptions.
This resulted in a whopping 27-3 lead for the Louisville Cardinals at halftime.
In what is becoming a frequent occurrence for SMU this season however, the second half was nothing like the first.
Three defensive interceptions returned for touchdowns and the SMU offense finally scoring instead of turning the ball over led to one of the most epic comebacks in recent history as SMU scored 36 unanswered points in the second half while shutting Louisville out.
In total, SMU would intercept Louisville QB Tyler Shough five times, all in the second half to fuel the comeback victory and to give SMU an ACC victory.
Louisville played one of their best halves of football in the first half. The second half was quite possibly their worst half of the season.
A great effort by Don Cheney on the ground was nullified by an awful interception performance by the Louisville offense.
The Cardinal defense did a solid job nullifying the SMU offense most of the day. Unable to corral smu qb stone on a td scramble and a 2 point conversion which hurt. The rest was pretty much the cards giving smh the ball over and over.
“This one was on us, the coaches. The players made plays to win this game and we didn’t put them in the right position to finish it off with a win.”
