Lubbock, TX (AP) -

In a thrilling matchup, Texas Tech triumphed over the Arizona Wildcats in their second conference game of the season. This contest marked a rematch from last year’s Beefy Cup, where both head coaches faced off previously, adding an extra layer of intensity to the game.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle, ending in a 21-21 tie as both teams showcased their offensive firepower alongside some critical mistakes. While neither defense shined, Texas Tech’s unit stepped up when it mattered most, making pivotal plays that set the stage for a strong second-half performance.

Star running back Tahj Brooks was once again the focal point of the Texas Tech offense, dominating on the ground with an impressive 195 rushing yards and three touchdowns. His ability to break tackles was on full display, as he racked up 105 yards after contact, proving to be a formidable force for the Wildcats' defense.

Wide receiver Josh Kelly also made significant contributions, with a standout performance that included five receptions for a staggering 209 total yards and three touchdowns. His ability to turn short catches into explosive plays helped keep the Texas Tech offense rolling.

Despite some ups and downs from quarterback Behren Morton, who threw a few critical interceptions, he managed to regroup and guide his team to victory in the end. Morton's resilience was crucial as he helped maintain the offensive momentum needed to secure the win.

With this victory, Texas Tech opens conference play at 2-0, setting the stage for a challenging upcoming game against Cincinnati. Coach AUChase expressed concerns about his team’s mental preparation for the road trip, especially as they face tough competition ahead. While reaching their ambitious goal of nine wins this season seems daunting, the focus remains on representing the university well and being competitive in a conference filled with experienced coaches.

Gun's up for the Red Raider offense all day

This game got off to a back and forth start in the 1H. Both teams traded scores and Arizona was able to go into half with a 21-21 tie on an interception. This only delayed the inevitable as the second half spelled doom for Arizona's defense.

Texas Tech did what they wanted on offense. It was an embarrassing effort from the Wildcat's defense as Tech bounced off tackles and got chunks with ease. Arizona showed a little fight to keep it interesting but Texas Tech had too much punch. Credit to the Red Raider defense for forcing turnovers and ensuring Arizona could not keep up.

Arizona will have to straighten out a lot of things if they plan to compete on the road in the Big 12. The consistency is just not there for the Wildcats on both sides of the ball. GG Chase
