BYU was down 7-10 with not too much time left in the half when they managed to score to bring it to 14-10. However Oklahoma State brought it right back down the field and scored to end the half 14-17. The third quarter didn't see much action but a touchdown at the end to bring the game to 14-24. Oklahoma State would get one more to start the third bringing it to 14-31. Down three scores, BYU decided to turn on the gas, and brought it right back to lead the game 35-31 with three minutes left. Oklahoma state followed this up with a 2 minute drive to go up 38-35. Down 3, BYU needed to march the field and score a field goal for overtime or a touchdown to win. Unfortunately, Jake Retzlaff was hit while throwing the ball resulting in a fumble and a touchdown for Oklahoma State. Down 10 with under a minute left, Retzleff couldn't handle the pressure and threw a game sealing interception. The Cougars fall to 1-4 on the year and are in desperate need of a bounce back if they want to make a bowl game.

BYU responded strongly, as Retzlaff threw three consecutive touchdown passes—to Roberts for 54 yards, then to LJ Martin for 14 yards, and back to Roberts again for a staggering 61-yard score, putting the Cougars ahead 35-31. However, Oklahoma State rallied once more, with Garret Rangel throwing a 13-yard touchdown pass to Josh Ford, bringing the score to 38-35. To seal the victory, Collin Oliver returned a fumble 10 yards for a touchdown, giving Oklahoma State a decisive 45-35 lead.
