ECU Escapes with a Win Against Army

ECU was coming off a defeating loss to UTSA last week. Many were wondering if the rating drop might be to much to continue this magical season. So the Pirates laced it up against Army to find an answer to those questions.

First half was nip and tuck as both teams were fealing each other out. Army got on the board first with a 33 yard FG. 2nd quarter saw some touchdowns by both teams. Army's Daily scored on a 7 yard run. ECU answered back with a 38 yd touchdown pass from Garcia to Sowell to close out the half 10-7.

ECU came out in the 3rd qtr with a quick td strike, an 50 yard td pass from Garcia to Sowell from 50 yards out. The second td between the two for the day.

The 4th qtr started out with another score from ECU. Rahjai Harris would haul in a pass from 19 yards out and put the Pirates in a controlling 24-7 lead.

That's when the fireworks started for Army. ECU defense got lazy and allowed a streaking WR Short behind them and allowed a quick 91 yard td pass. Army would hold ECU to punt and did quick work scoring on another td pass from Daily to Short on a 13 yd pass.

With the score now 24-21 ECU was looking to control the clock and the game as Army had taken all the momentum. That did not go according to plan as two ECU wr's bumped into each other and leaving a Garcia pass open for an interception.

Army would drive down the field and get the ball inside the 5 yard line with less than a minute to play. ECU defense held strong forcing a 4th down. Army lined up for what appeared to be a easy chip shot field goal to send the game into OT.

The Pirates luck would turn to good fortune as the Army kicker missed to the right and ECU holds on to win 24-21.

Great game by OfcMep! The Pirates look forward to a bye week and then onto Temple in the next block of play.

Bad Luck or Bad Play?

The Army Black Knights proceeded to fall short at the last minute in conference play once again, this time at ECU. Army relied on the passing game this week, throwing for 221 yards and rushing for 191 yards. Army's kicker failed on all 3 of his FG attempts, including a chip shot at the end of the game that would have sent it to OT.

Daily had all 3 of Army's TDs, with 2 passing and 1 rushing.

With this loss, Army falls to 2-4 on the season (Temple game still pending) and 2-3 in conference play.
