Dillon Gabriel led the high powered Oregon offense to a win against lowly Illinois today.
The difference in skill from teams was apparent from kickoff. Oregon got out to a quick 10 point lead before Illinois answered with an incredible 86 yard TD run from QB Cal Swanson in his first start.
That proved to be the only bright spot for the lowly Illini as they dropped another one in convincing fashion as they couldn’t get anything going on the ground. Oregons DL and OL dominated the trenches and Illinois simply didn’t have an answer for the talent on both sides of the ball.
Dillon Gabriel and Evan Stewart combined for a big day in the Ducks victory over the Illini. The Ducks started out quickly with 27 points in the 1st half.
Gabriel threw for 335 yards and 3 TDs, and most importantly 0 INTs.. WR Evan Stewart hauled in 8 passes for 213 yards and 2 TDs. RB Jordan James led the way with 98 yards on 16 carries to round out the Ducks good performance on the offensive side of the ball.
The Ducks put in a solid all around performance with 484 yards of offense while also holding Illinois to 216 yards.
Defensively, the Ducks held Illinois to 116 yards passing with good secondary play and constant pressure. Jordan Burch led the defense with 2.5 sacks. The only hiccup was giving up an 86 yard TD on a Read Option keeper from Illinois QB Cal Swanson. But the D buckled down after that score and played well the rest of the way.
