NDL: S30W9 - Navy (0) at Notre Dame (34)

Irish Strike First, Strike Fast

Article By: ReignOnU

Notre Dame continued their rebound from a loss in Palo Alto by launching a furious attack on the visiting Midshipmen today. After stopping Navy on their opening series, QB Riley Leonard hit WR Kris Mitchell for a 73yd TD on the Irish's first play from scrimmage. Just moments later, DT Rylie Mills showed his Mensa IQ, perfectly reading and option pitch and trucking his 6'5 300lbs frame into the end zone to put ND up 14-0.

Bad turned into worse on the next possession, as S Xavier Watts picked off a QB Blake Horvath pass and the Irish turned it into a 4yd Jeremiyah Love TD run to give Notre Dame a 21-0 first quarter lead.

The Notre Dame kept the hits coming all afternoon, frequently spoiling the Navy attack and forcing turnovers (6 total on the day). Meanwhile the Irish offense was consistently left with a short field to work with. The Leonard to Evans connection linked up for a 33yd TD pass, pushing the lead to 28. K Mitch Jeter tacked on a couple of FGs before half, making it 34-0 Notre Dame.

The teams traded some punches in the 2nd half, but both teams were mostly going through the motions. FINAL Notre Dame 34 - Navy 0

Coach Reign: "Always a pleasure to share the field with Coach Code and Navy. The game is the game, but having the chance to be out there with a good coach and program is what matters the most. In victory or defeat, him and that program are what the NDL is really about."
