Tulane survived in an ugly slugfest Tuesday as they bested Charlotte 28-7. The game was much slower than the score. The first half was filled with dead drives for the Tulane offense, amassing no points themselves but benefitting off a pick-6 in the second quarter. This would be enough to enter the second half up 7-0, as Charlotte had some drives with potential that ended in missed field goals.
The second half began the same way, as the teams traded possessions until the Tulane quarterback threw a 96-yard pick-6, tying the game with only defenses scoring.
Tulane then turned on the gas, however, as they drove down the field three straight drives to earn a 28-7 victory. Charlotte would go the entire game without scoring an offensive point.
The Charlotte 49ers have lost again as they visited Tulane on Saturday. The 49ers looked good on defense early, but couldn't get anything going as they missed all three first half field goal opportunities. In addition to the missed field goals, the 49ers left a drive off on the 1 yard line after a failed 4th down attempt. The missed opportunities cost Charlotte significantly as they threw a pick 6 near the end of the second quarter to give Tulane a 7-0 lead at the half.
The second half started out okay for the 49ers, as they returned a pick 6 of their own. However, it was all down hill from there. Tulane's offense came out strong and controlled the rest of the second half, ending the game 28-7.
