If you had to find a positive from the game, you could say that Drewwbacca actually played one of his better games of the season, against the leader of the MAC.
The box score shows BGSU tallied more total offense and T.O.P. but it also shows the most glaringly obvious thing that every game has shown all season. The turnover margin. If Drewwbacca were to ever work out his trigger happy fingers, and cut down the turnovers, he'd stand a chance at posting a number in the win column.
Connor Bazelak was once again efficient, completing 22 of 28 passes. Unfortunately, he completed 25, 3 of those to Chip and the Chippewas. Add in 2 fumbles and a -5 T.O. margin for BGSU was a death spell.
Looking beyond the T.O. Chip has great defense and although the numbers weren't overly impressive, the Falcons offense was still effective and moved the ball well. Finishing drives becomes its own problem that absolutely must be solved for Drewwbacca to ever win a game. RZ efficiency and BGSU aren't even in the same planetary system.
Central Michigan won their game against Bowling Green today 49-21 while forcing 4 fumbles and 3 interceptions against the Falcons. Whilst the Chips were able to get the ball on the ground four times, they only recovered three to add up to a total of 6 turnovers against a BGSU team that has been unable to get a win yet this season. CMU leaned heavy on the ground game as QB Bert Emmanuel only threw 3 passes, but 2 of which resulted in a touchdown to give him a passer rating of over 600! Stephan Bracey and Marion Lukes were the Chips who came down with each of his touchdowns.
Lukes was also dominant on the ground as he racked up a 100+ yard game yet again and has really been hitting his stride as of late. Also of note was that safety Caleb Spann returned an interception for a touchdown for his 3rd consecutive game today. Coach FiredUpChip had the following to say "It was a nice win today to move us one step closer to clinching a spot in Detroit and the MACtion championship. I had a great time coaching these boys today and loved to see their tenacity on the defensive end. Hopefully we can keep this going the rest of the season. Fire Up Chips!!!!!"
Yes, fire up chips indeed coach. His CMU ball club appears to be peaking at just the right time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
