Big thanks to coach BigBrian for helping capture the team and player stats after I accidentally exited out of the game early and didnt grab stats.

BOONE, N.C. – The Appalachian State Mountaineers delivered a strong performance in front of their home crowd, securing a 31-17 victory over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. With a balanced offense and opportunistic defense, App State controlled much of the game and walked away with a decisive win.

The first quarter saw Coastal Carolina open the scoring with with a 49 yard field goal, but App State pulled off a long run by Kanye Roberts late in the opening frame making it 7-3 heading into the second quarter.

The second quarter proved pivotal for the Mountaineers. A quick FB dive on the goal line got the score to 14-3. The next play, Coastal hit an open streaking WR for a 75 yard touchdown. Aguilar threw his first touchdown pass of the game after a 11 play 73 yard drive that took 4:03 off the clock in the second quarter. Less than a minute later, App State would tack on a 56 yard FG to take the 24-10 lead. A 2 minute drive clinic by Coastal Carolina led to a touchdown with only seconds left before halftime.

In the second half, App State’s defense held firm, shutting out Coastal Carolina over the final two quarters. The Chanticleers were unable to overcome five turnovers, including four interceptions, which stifled their attempts to mount a comeback.

Kanye Roberts was the star on offense for Appalachian State, rushing for 126 yards on 18 carries and scoring one of the team’s touchdowns. Aguilar contributed 129 yards through the air, completing 11 of 18 passes with two touchdowns and one interception. Defensively, Brendan Harrington and Jordan Favors each recorded interceptions, while Montez Kelley tallied the game’s lone sack.

Coastal Carolina managed 201 passing yards but struggled to establish their ground game, totaling just 76 rushing yards. Despite some bright moments, the Chanticleers’ five turnovers ultimately doomed their efforts.

Appalachian State's ability to control the clock and capitalize on key opportunities proved the difference in this Sun Belt showdown. This game concludes the regular season for the Mountaineers, now they wait until the bowl season to see if they can capture their 9th win on the season.

CCU falls short

Being shutout in the 2nd half was hurtful for Coastal Carolina. They had opportunities to win but couldn't make the key plays on offense or key stops on defense led to the loss. App State's star running back was a handful to tackle.
