Penn State takes the Victory Bell

Happy Valley not so happy for Gophers

Article By: taruncheel

The gameplan for the Gophers was to control the tempo and try not to throw the ball much. This worked well in the first half, until the middle of the 2nd quarter and everything went downhill from there. Minnesota struck first with a 12 yd pass to Taylor from Brosmer to take a 7-0 lead. Penn State was able to march down the field and add a TD toss of their own to make it 7-7. Minnesota then played some good defense and Walley was able to return the INT for a TD to take a 14-7 lead with 1:45 until half. Then Penn State exploded. On the next kickoff, Penn State took the ball at the 25 yd line. A run up the middle by Singleton went untouched and the score was tied at 14. Minnesota then took the ball and threw an INT. This lead to a quick strike by Penn State to make it 21-14. Minnesota still had some time and moved the ball down the field only to throw a pick 6 that went for 79 yards. Halftime score was 28-14 Penn State. The second half started with Penn State receiving the ball and moving down the field to score on a 20 yd pass play. Minnesota then marched down the field and had to settle for a 35 yd FG. This made it 35-17. Penn State would then go down the field and score on another 10 yd pass play to go up 42-17 with 59 seconds left in the 3rd. Minnesota then took control of the ball and moved down the field and scored on a 4 yd run by Taylor. The 2 pt conversion failed and that was the end of the scoring.
