LSU travelled to Oklahoma this past Saturday for their final game of the season, looking to finish out winning 11 games in a row after stumbling early on against South Carolina. Win and get in to the SEC Conference Championship game as well as the College Football Playoff.
It was a shaky start for the Tigers as the Sooners opened up the game with a 13 play, 64 yd drive taking a full 6 min off the clock, but the Fightin' Tiger D came to play and forced a FG. After a lackluster drive on offense, the defense was back out on the field where All-American LB Perkins Jr jumped a RPO for a walk in Pick Six to get the score to 7-3. The Sooners sustained another long drive ending in a FG and on the ensuing kickoff star returner Zavion Thomas was stripped and turned it over on the 13 yd line. Once again, this Fightin' Tiger Defense does not budge and holds the Sooners to 3. The Tigers score right before the half to make it 14-9 at the break. The 2nd half was all LSU right out of the gate as the other All-American LB Penn III jumped another RPO for a walk in Pick Six. After a RB Durham 64 yd screen rec TD and WR Anderson 66 yd rec TD, the game was all but over. S Major Burns returned another INT 90 yds for 6 to seal the game. 42-12 Final.
All eyes are on the SEC Championship Game now as there will be a rematch against the Gamecocks for a top 4 spot in the CFP.
Oklahoma completed their poor season with a loss vs LSU at home. The game was close for a while as Ou managed to hold the ball for an extremely long time(LSU ended with about 6 minutes of TOP all game) but costly turnovers began the route and the game never got close. Two pick sixs and a rough defensive showing spelled the doom and Ou is widely expected to move on to a new coach next season.
