The Hurricanes would face the Syracuse Orange in their Week 14 game. The Canes would not take this Syracuse team for granted and wanted to put the game away as soon as possible. Miami's defense would come out and would get an opening stop getting their offense the ball very quickly. The Canes would hit on a big 3rd down pass from Cam Ward to Elijah Arroyo for a big 34 yard pass play. Damien Martinez would follow it up with a 23 yard run. Ward would then hit Jacolby George for a 8 yard TD reception to go up 7-0. The Orange would come out fighting their next possession, they would hit on a couple big plays the biggest being a 42 yard TD reception to tie the game at 7-7. Miami would really get it rolling in the 2nd quarter, they would start with a 55 yard TD pass from Ward to Ray Joseph to go up 14-7. With a quick 3 and out the Canes offense would be right back on the field, 5 plays later Martinez would run it in from 5 yards out to go up 21-7. The Miami defense would come up huge again with another 3 and out. The Canes would get two more big plays with a 25 yard pass from Ward to George and then a 29 yard rush by Martinez. Martinez would then punch it in from 1 yard out to go up 28-7. Syracuse special teams would decide to take matters into their own hands on the kickoff as Malachi James would take it 102 yard to the house and cut the lead to 28-14. Miami would get the ball back with :34 seconds left and that's all they would need. Miami would need only 4 plays as Ward would connect with Martinez for a 40 yard TD reception and a 35-14 halftime lead. "We played a really great half on offense and defense," said Coach Dealer, "we made big plays on offense and were getting a lot of pressure on their QB on the defensive side of the ball."
The second half would be pretty quiet. Martinez would get his 4th touchdown of the day on a 18 yard rush to push the lead to 42-14, and that would be the final score. "I was proud of how our team played today. We came out and took care of business.," said Dealer.
