Penn State vs. Maryland Football Game Recap

In their annual rivalry game, the Penn State Nittany Lions faced off against the Maryland Terrapins, continuing a storied series that dates back to 1917.
With an overwhelming historical advantage, having won 43 of 47 meetings, the Nittany Lions sought to solidify their chances for a Big Ten title as they took the field at home.

First Quarter
The game kicked off with the Terps driving down the field, culminating in a 37-yard field goal by kicker Jack Howes, putting Maryland on the board first at 3-0. However, the Nittany Lions responded quickly with an 8-yard touchdown run by wide receiver Julian Fleming, taking the lead at 7-3 as the quarter came to a close.

Second Quarter
The second quarter saw Maryland regain momentum with a 9-yard rushing touchdown from halfback Colby McDonald, briefly reclaiming the lead at 10-7.
Yet, Penn State answered back with a determined drive that ended in a 3-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Drew Allar to wide receiver Omari Evans, giving the Nittany Lions a 14-10 advantage heading into halftime.

Third Quarter
Penn State emerged from the locker room with renewed energy, igniting their offense with a spectacular 69-yard touchdown pass from QB Allar to WR Fleming.
Maryland responded with a strong play of their own, as halfback Roman Hemby broke free for a 54-yard touchdown run.
However, the Nittany Lions capped off the third quarter with another scoring drive, ending with a 19-yard rushing touchdown by halfback Nicholas Singleton.

Score at the end of the third quarter: Penn State 28 - Maryland 17

Fourth Quarter
The final quarter was dominated by Penn State's offense and defense.
Singleton scored again with a 2-yard touchdown run, extending the Nittany Lions' lead.
The defense stepped up in a big way, with cornerback AJ Harris returning an interception for a 35-yard touchdown (pick-six) that further solidified Penn State's command of the game.
Following another interception by safety Kevin Winston Jr., the Nittany Lions capped their scoring with a 22-yard field goal by kicker Sander Sahaydak.

Final score: Penn State 45 - Maryland 17

Conclusion
With this decisive victory, the Nittany Lions improved their record to 9-2 on the season and 7-1 in conference play, keeping their hopes alive for the Big Ten title game.

Coach Brady and the Terrapins showed resilience, but it was Penn State’s day as they executed on both sides of the ball.
