UTSA ended their home campaign with a win over visiting Army 26-14. This game was all about the defenses as neither team crossed the 300 yard mark on offense. In a change of roles, it was UTSA who was able to win the battle of turnovers notching five interceptions on the day to control the game. UTSA opened the scoring with a touchdown in the first quarter, and after a second interception, looked poised to jump out to a quick two score lead. An end zone interception ended notions of that, and Army tied it up just before halftime with a 4th down conversion that went to the house. The second half was all about the Roadrunner defense as stops and turnovers led to points. In another change from normal, the UTSA kicking game was solid today with four field goals including a 52 yarder. A late Army touchdown ended the scoring, but for UTSA, it was a nice way to end the home schedule. After the game, Coach Tim said, "That was a physical game throughout. Their defense played great and gave us fits, but the turnover battle going our way for once was the difference in the game. Hats off to Army for a great season and running a great program. We'll see how we can finish out our season on the road for our last two games."
In a defensive showcase, the Army Black Knights once again succumbed to turnovers, with Daily throwing 5 INTs. A difference in this one is that UTSA smothered the normally-dominant Army rushing attack, whereas Army's only 2 TDs came through the air.
"I'm tired of this poor offensive performance," remarked Coach Meep, "There are many opportunities this season where we could've, and should've, won. But due to throwing constant interceptions our season is shot."
Army must win-out against Navy and North Texas in order to meet their season win goal and conference win goal.
"This will be a tall task, but Army has dealt with worse," remarked Coach Meep.
