Coach FiredUpChip was able to come away with the victory against coaching friend Neal, as the Chippewas were able to win their season 30 opener by a score of 28-14. Coach Chip brought his rushing attack from Coastal Carolina and leaned on running back Marion Lukes, who had 190 rushing yards to lead the Chippewas to victory. The key point in the game was a clutch interception by linebacker Jordan Kwiatkowski late in the game to seal the game for the Chips. Coach Chip had the following to say "this was an excellent game and it's always fun to play Coach Neal! I hope that we can pull out a few upsets with these very difficult ranked games we have coming up this season!"

Turnovers were the costly story as Coach Neal could not get the victory against former MAC foe CMU and Coach Chip! The final was 28-14 in which 2 INTs and a failed 4th down pass in the red zone were too much to overcome to get the victory. Marshall outgained CMU with a balanced running and passing attack but again the turnovers were the difference. CMU ran the ball as the Herd were able to stop the pass game. Coach Neal will look for his first win next week as they go on the road to visit the Minnesota Golden Gophers!
