The UMass Minutemen fell to the ECU Pirates, 33-21, in an away game that left fans wondering if they’d accidentally tuned in to a rerun of "Groundhog Day." Despite flashes of potential, UMass struggled to avoid the classic pitfalls that have haunted them all offseason. Shaky defense, a few too many stalled drives, and the kind of turnovers that would make even a Pirate cringe.
ECU capitalized on the Minutemen's miscues, plundering points with a relentless ground game and timely passing attack. Meanwhile, UMass managed to muster some fight, with the offense piecing together a couple of decent scoring drives to keep things interesting and added some explosive plays with a Pick 6 and punt return for a TD but the hole was too deep. But in the end, the Pirates were just too much to handle, and UMass walked the plank once again.
For UMass, it’s back to the drawing board—or at least to the whiteboard full of X's and O's that haven’t quite panned out on the field. As for the Pirates, they sail on to celebrate another win, no treasure map required.
Coach Keg executed a perfect gameplan and put the Minutemen to sleep early and never looked back. Always fun man!!
Pirates vs Minutemen...a tale as old as time. Another tale as old as time is Coach Keg vs Coach Cnasty. This one goes way back in the NDL archives. The NDL was happy to see Coach C back in the coaching ranks.
ECU came out with a dominating run game. Rahj Harris ran for a total of 146 yards and 1 td. The ECU defense recorded a safety and 4 int's.
But just when the Pirates thought they had the game under control late in the 4th quarter up 26-7, Coach Cnasty showed he still had the stick skills even though being away from the game all these years. UMass would get a pick six and then force ECU to punt on their next series. Umass would return the punt for a touchdown and closing the gap to just 5 points in a matter of a couple minutes.
ECU buckled down the hatches and was able to go down the field and score, putting the game away 33-21.
ECU improves to 2-0 on the season and was lucky to play Umass early in the year as Coach Cnasty is still getting used to his team. No doubt Coach Cnasty will be making waves in the future once he gets more acquainted with his team and the game.
Always a great time to play a true legend and friend. GL my man! See ya down the road!
