Jaguars Fall Short in Shootout

The South Alabama Jaguars gave it their all but came up just short in a thrilling 45-42 loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini. The Jaguars mounted an impressive comeback after being down 14-0 in the first quarter, scoring 21 points in the second to tie the game at halftime. Quarterback Gio Lopez threw for 264 yards and helped the team keep pace, but Illinois' balanced attack, featuring 443 total yards and strong performances both in the air and on the ground, proved too much to overcome.

Illinois picks up their second win this season in what proved to be a showcase of offense all game.

Halftime ended 35-21 only after Kenari Wilcher took his second Kick Return of the season home for 97 yards to the house as time expired to give Illinois the momentum.

Illinois thought to have the momentum going into the second half sputtered out of the game as Cal Swanson threw his second Pick 6 in as many drives to bring the Jags back to within a score.

Illinois answered shortly thereafter with a herculean run from Aidan Laugherty for 74 yards to extend the lead.

Jags were not done yet however as they scored 14 points straight to tie the game capped off by Kentrel Bullocks 82 yrd Td run. Illinois answered on the next drive with a crucial 4th down conversion with 90 seconds left and was able to put three on the board to make it 45-42.

On the ensuing possession Illinois was able to Intercept a ball from QB Gio Lopez and finish a hard fought game at home.
