Cale Sanders Jr flipped the script with a pick six just before halftime.

SMU Overcomes Mistakes, Beats Wisconsin

Article By: Block M

DALLAS, TEXAS -- Brandon Crossley got the night started with a stellar play where he peeled off his man and skied for an early interception of Tyler Van Dyke. He also nearly returned it and put the Mustangs ahead but got shoved out of bounds inside the five. SMU faithful really wished he had gotten in as Mustangs QB Preston Stone would toss a pick six and the roller coaster of emotions was on.

Just as the Mustangs responded to adversity in their road win at Maryland however, they did the same tonight.

Jaylan Knighton would cap SMU's response drive to even the game at 7-7 in the first quarter. A little later, a Collin Rogers field goal put SMU ahead at 10-7 but the lead would not last long.

Wisconsin QB Tyler Van Dyke would go up and over the Southern Methodist defense and put Wisconsin back up 14-10 on a long touchdown pass where SMU DB Cale Sanders Jr. was burnt.

Preston Stone would connect with WR Jordan Hudson late in the second half to re-claim the lead at 17-14 however and just as the first half looked complete, the game was turned upside down. WIS QB Van Dyke would toss another interception, this time to the man he just one upped in DB Cale Sanders Jr. Sanders Jr was not happy with just the interception though and would return the pick all the way to the house to put SMU ahead 24-14 heading into the break.

A second touchdown pass from SMU QB Preston Stone put SMU ahead 34-17 later in the game. Stone would finish the game 15/16 with two touchdowns and his one incompletion being returned for a touchdown.

LJ Johnson Jr. would erase all doubt with a 76 yard touchdown scamper in the fourth quarter that put SMU ahead 41-17.

Wisconsin would string together some plays and score with no time left and fail on a 2-pt conversion to make the final score 41-23.

SMU now improves to 2-0 and heads back on the road to play rival TCU across town in Fort Worth.

Dallas, TX -- It was a "homecoming" for Coach RB, as he resides full-time in Big D, but SMU did not welcome him kindly as their defense was all over the badgers forcing 4 TOs.

The Badgers have doomed themselves the first two weeks, giving up the ball a staggering 8 times to their opponents.

"It make me sick. Week 1 we were right there, made a silly play to lose the game in 2OT, and then today we just got knocked around" said Coach RB.

SMU's Preston Stone was nearly flawless, only throwing one incompletion which ended up being a pick six by Ricardo Hallman. Badgers looked promising in the first half, but of course threw a back breaking int to end the half as a pick six basically did them in.

Had a couple chances in the 2nd half, but the HFA took over forcing fumbles, and the SMU defense playing out of their mind with their speed closing in on passes by Tyler Van Dyke. UW needs to find answers quick. Still a lot to play for ahead in the conference, but Coach RB has dug himself a whole if he'd like to be at UW long term.
