UW Defeats Former Conference Member

The Huskies defeated their former Pac-12 conference member Stanford 31-28 in a beautiful day in Palo Alto.

The game started out with a 4 minute drive from the Husky offense, ending on a 6 yard touchdown pass to Jonah Coleman. The Cardinal struck right back, scoring on their first offensive play on an 85 yard jet pass to Elic Ayomanor. The Huskies added another touchdown, with a pass to receiver Denzel Boston to put the Huskies up 14-7 at the end of the first.

Both offenses began to stall, until the last minute where Stanford was able to score another touchdown on a 12 yard pass to Seedrick Irwin. The Huskies, left with little time, were able to drive down the field 75 yards in under a minute to score another Denzel Boston receiving touchdown.

The Huskies offense then started to show up, forcing 2 interceptions in the third quarter. The first by sophomore Curley Reed, the second by Elijah Jackson, who now has 3 interceptions in 2 games. These interceptions set up a 38 yard Grady Gross kick and a long 30 yard touchdown run by Jordan Washington to end the half.

The Cardinal were not done, however. In just 9 seconds, the Cardinals were able to score a touchdown. A quick possession from the Husky offense led to a punt, where Stanford was able to drive down the field once again and score another touchdown. Now up only 3 with 4 minutes to go, the Huskies needed a long drive or a score to seal the game. The Huskies were able to chain some firsts downs. bringing the game to the 2 minute warning. On a jet sweep, WR Giles Jackson fumbled the ball, but the huskies were able to recover. On the next play, Jonah Coleman was able to find running room for a first down, ending the game.

Stanford Falls Short in Thriller

The Stanford Cardinal fought hard but ultimately came up just short against the Washington Huskies, falling 31-28 in a tightly contested second game of the season.

First Half Recap: The first half saw back-and-forth action between the two teams, with Washington drawing first blood by scoring 14 points in the first quarter. Stanford responded with a touchdown in both the first and second quarters to keep the game close at halftime, with the score standing at 21-14 in favor of the Huskies.

Third Quarter Struggles: Stanford's offense struggled to find rhythm in the third quarter, while Washington extended their lead with a 10-point quarter, including a key touchdown pass from quarterback Will Rogers. This left the Cardinal facing a 31-14 deficit heading into the fourth quarter.

Late Surge by Stanford: The final quarter saw a determined Stanford offense come alive. Ashton Daniels led two touchdown drives, closing the gap to just three points. Despite the strong rally, Washington's defense made crucial plays to hold off Stanford's momentum, securing the win.

Key Stats:

Ashton Daniels completed 19 of 26 passes for 327 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions, with standout receiver Elic Ayomanor catching two touchdowns and racking up 132 yards on four receptions.

On the ground, Sedrick Irvin led Stanford’s rushing attack with 72 yards on 12 carries.

Defensively, linebacker Mitch Leigber led the Cardinal with 13 tackles, while Gaethan Bernadel contributed three tackles for loss and a sack.


Washington's Performance:

Washington quarterback Will Rogers was efficient, completing 31 of 38 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns.

Their rushing attack was led by Jonah Coleman, who rushed for 77 yards on 17 carries, while Denzel Boston had a stellar receiving day, catching eight passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns.


Stanford will look to bounce back next week as they continue their season with high hopes after a promising offensive display, despite the tough loss.
