Dukes out of conference schedule is one of the toughest in the country. After a loss in the season opener at Washington, Duke had Oklahoma coming to town. Coach Shiesty told us he'd have his team ready for Oklahoma after a tough loss at Washington and the Blue Devils delivered.
After Oklahoma starts the game with a couple of first downs, Duke corner Joshua Pickett jumps a route and takes a pick back for a touchdown to put Duke up 7. On the first play of the following drive, Duke defensive end Ryan Smith comes up with a huge sack fumble, recovers his own fumble and runs it in for a second consecutive defensive touchdown. The stadium was rocking and defense looked to continue feeding off the energy.
Duke wanted to establish the run game early and they did just that as they go on to rush for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns. For Duke it was all run game and defense, forcing 4 turnovers and dominating time of possession. This is a great win for Duke over the #19 Sooners and coach Shiesty says he and his team look to build off of this game as they prep to go to Coastal Carolina next week.
In the first game of the season for Oklahoma, the offense cost the team the game before the defense even took the field. Two turnovers for TD's on the first two possessions doomed the Sooner game plan, and Duke ran their way to victory as they were able to easily control the game after being spotted 14 before even getting the ball. 4 turnovers to zero and a huge win for Duke. OU will look forward to their conference games, as the season couldn't have started off worse for them.
