NDL: S30W3 - Duke (38) at Coastal Carolina (10)

Defense stays active in win over Chanticleers

Duke stays hot with win on the road

Article By: SnealShiesty

Coming off of a big upset win over Oklahoma, Duke looked to keep their foot on the gas as they visited Coastal Carolina in week 3.

The Blue Devils leaned heavily on the rushing attack last week against OU but Maalik Murphy and the passing game is what got them started this week, airing it out to star wide receiver Jordan Moore for a 54 yard TD on the opening drive. Duke's defense picked up where it left off last week by coming up with a big interception on the Chanticleers first drive of the game. Following the takeaway, Murphy and Moore connect again for a 31 yard TD and Duke jumps out to an early 14-0 lead. Duke takes a 3 score lead into the second quarter.

Coastal Carolina gets the ground game working and finds the endzone early in the second quarter to cut into the lead. We start to see the Duke from the week before, grinding out yards on the ground and eating up clock. A couple scores go back and forth in the second quarter with both teams putting 10 on the board and Duke leads 31-10 at the half.

The second half of the game mostly consisted of defense and burning clock as the Blue Devils hold the Chanticleers scoreless in the second half and only gets in the endzone one more time themselves. Defense, pounding the rock and T.O.P seem to be the winning formula for coach Shiesty and this Blue Devils team. Duke rolls to a 38-10 victory on the road and look ahead to #16 Ole Miss coming to Durham in week 4.
