In a commanding home victory, the Virginia Tech Hokies surged past the Missouri Tigers with a 49-27 win. Virginia Tech’s offense put on a clinic, racking up 567 total yards to Missouri’s 277, and dominated time of possession with nearly 20 minutes on the ball.
Quarterback Kyron Drones led the charge, throwing for 371 yards with four passing touchdowns while adding 33 rushing yards and two more touchdowns on the ground. Offensive lineman Kaden Moore also had a standout game, executing 10 pancake blocks without allowing a single sack. The Hokies’ offensive line provided a clean pocket and set the stage for a powerful ground game, totaling 196 rushing yards.
Virginia Tech shut out Missouri in the second half, pulling away with a 21-0 scoring advantage. Special teams played a minimal role, as the Hokies didn’t punt once—a testament to their sustained drives and consistent red zone execution. Virginia Tech’s defensive intensity also made a difference, capitalizing on three Missouri turnovers to keep the Tigers at bay.
The Hokies victory wraps up this years OOC schedule 3-1. From here on out the Hokies will face off with a tough in conference play.
Missouri suffered a humbling 49-27 loss to Virginia Tech, with the Hokies dominating all three phases of the game. From the opening whistle, Virginia Tech imposed their will on the Tigers, with their offense firing on all cylinders and their defense stifling Missouri’s attempts to generate any meaningful momentum. Virginia Tech's special teams also contributed to the rout, setting up excellent field position on multiple occasions and even scoring a touchdown on a special teams play.
For Missouri, it was a frustrating night filled with missed opportunities and uncharacteristic mistakes. After showing strong promise in previous games, the Tigers appeared to take a step back, particularly on defense, where they struggled to contain the Hokies' dynamic offensive plays. The pass rush was ineffective, and the secondary allowed too many big plays. Offensively, Brady Cook and the Mizzou offense could never find their rhythm, facing constant pressure from the Virginia Tech defense and failing to establish a consistent running game. Despite some bright spots, including a couple of touchdown drives, Missouri could never close the gap, and the game was effectively out of reach by the third quarter.
The loss exposed some glaring weaknesses for the Tigers, and they will need to make significant adjustments if they hope to finish the season on a respectable note. With tougher challenges ahead, Missouri faces a critical turning point in the season. They will have to regroup, address their deficiencies, and bounce back quickly to avoid further setbacks. If they hope to salvage their season, a more disciplined, focused effort will be needed in the weeks to come.
